| 02/03/2009 17:25:05 | ASSOC CUP PREMIER SUPER SUNDAY in ALSAA March 1st | Gerry White |
| Yesterday we had another PREMIER SUPER SUNDAY in ALSAA with a 3 Aer Lingus Premier Teams at home playing in the quarter finals of the Association Cup. And once again what a day it was with all 3 teams producing some fantastic volleyball to come out winners in all 3 matches. We now have our 3 Premier Teams in the Association cup Semi Finals on weekend 28/29th March. It was another massive day for the Club and the atmosphere was both electric and tense throughout with some fantastic individual and ultimately great team performances. PL Aer Lingus ladies beat a very good Tallaght Rockets side 3-2 in a hard fought tough game with our girls experience telling in the end winning the last set 15-8. Tallaght Rockets had a few new excellent players and although playing in Division 1 they played as well as many of the top premier sides. Mark & the girls won out on the day and were delighted and relieved to take the victory. Set scores: 25-22, 23-25, 30-32, 25-15, 15-8 PM Aer Lingus Jets beat Cork 3-1 in a classic match with some fantastic volleyball overall. Cork took the 1st set and Jets dominated the 2nd set. The 3rd set was close throughout with Jets pulling winning by a few points. The 4th set was again nip & tuck with both teams playing some great attacking volleyball. Jets made a few errors late in the set and at 23-23 it was anybodies set and could have went to a 5th set. But they held their nerve and won 25-23 to a great sigh of relief all round. It was a great team performance but it was Radek Janora who was the man of the match playing some fantastic volleyball throughout. His hitting was superb and Cork had no answer most of the time. PM Aer Lingus 1 game went to form and beat CBPhoto 3-0. The 1st 2 sets they were comfortable winners but in the 3rd set CBPhoto put up a very spirited performance pushing our lads right to the end. Aer Lingus 1 experience paid off with a 25-23 win in the 3rd set. They now meet old rivals TCD in the semi final (both last years Cup finalists). We a bit of luck we will have both Aer Lingus men’s team meeting in the Cup final. Again this would be history in the making and what a fantastic prospect in this our 25th Anniversary year. Our PL Ladies have a tough semi final against Newbridge but I have doubt Aer Lingus can do the business. Aer Lingus have great hopes of achieving 2 doubles this year in the League and Association Cup and hopefully we can make it happen. We will advise on the details of the semi finals below fixtures shortly and we look forward to your support. Men’s Semi Finals Aer Lingus 1 v TCD UCD v Aer Lingus Jets Ladies Semi Finals Aer lingus v Newbridge UCD v TCD So on behalf of all in the club many congratulations to our 3 teams on their fantastic win in our Association Cup Premier SUPER SUNDAY in ALSAA yesterday. We look forward to the remainder of the League matches and the Association Cup Matches with great anticipation and hopefully more success for the Aer Lingus Volleyball Club in its 25th Year. | 09/02/2009 16:16:11 | PREMIERSHIP SUPER SUNDAY in ALSAA Sunday 9th Feb | Gerry White |
| Yesterday Sunday 8th February we had PREMIERSHIP SUPER SUNDAY in ALSAA with a 3 Aer Lingus Premier Teams at home playing in hugely decisive matches. And what a day it was with all 3 teams producing some fantastic volleyball to come out winners in all 3 matches. We needed all 3 teams to win at this important business point in the season to keep League Title hopes alive and they did not disappoint as all 3 teams played produced the goods under pressure when it really mattered. It was a massive day for the Club and the atmosphere was both electric and tense throughout with some fantastic individual and ultimately great team performances. I was a Fantastic day for the Aer Lingus Volleyball Club and one that comes around very rarely and it will be savoured for a long time to come. No other club has 3 teams in the Premiership so the 3 wins in ALSAA yesterday are unique and something that our club can be very proud of. The fantastic effort, determination and skill of our 3 teams won the day and this is down to all the hard work and dedication of the coaches and players alike. Many thanks also to all the Referees, 2nd Referees and score keepers who did a very good job yesterday in what were sometimes difficult circumstances. Aer Lingus Jets are now Top of the Men’s Premier League with Cork in second place with a game in hand. Aer Lingus 1 having lost 3 games this season are on their heels and very much still in the title race. Aer Lingus Ladies having beat Newbridge are in poll position to regain the league title again this year but cannot be complacent and must look to win all their remaining matches to be sure of the title.
